I did love my stay! It’s a great location to all the foods and drinks. Walk to the water-front, city center, and the pier are all doable and fun. Informative staff and great service. Thank you. Felt access to a microwave and the bath-tub being less slippery are certain improvements that I would wish for.

Great advantage of the hotel is its location. I wouldn’t say this is a 4 star hotel though. The rooms are used but kept clean and the housekeeping was doing a great job 👏 the parking space is very limited for the size of the hotel. We have paid around 65€ per night for double room, I think it’s fare price for the service provided. If I paid more I would be dissatisfied

Very nice hotel, the staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and have everything necessary but it's time to change some of the equipment;-). The location is great, 5 min to the beach and 30 min to the centre of Funchal (10 min by car). The breakfast is ok, it has everything for a standard breakfast, sometimes a bit of different food will be nicer... We can recommend this hotel and maybe come back:-)

Disappointed. Not 4 star. Photos of rooms were deceiving. Despite the website stating the hotel had been recently renovated, my room was tired, outdated and in some areas unclean. Lots of scratches and marks on walls.The sofa looked like it had never been cleaned. Covered in flea bites after first night. The barman at the pool (older man) was unfriendly and unhelpful. There were many times when there was no one at reception to help. Had to ask twice for someone to look at the AC in my room. Asked twice for a taxi to be booked for 4.20am for the airport. When it didn’t show, the man on reception told me I had told them 4.30, then when he phoned the taxi company, it hadn’t been booked at all! Luckily I had the Bolt app and booked a taxi myself. Very disappointing to read older reviews which state the same complaints as me and see that nothing has been rectified. Would not recommend this hotel.

I stayed in this hotel for a week in September with a friend whilst visiting Maderia. The website states that this is a 4 star hotel and the photos on the booking site looked great. Unfortunately this hotel is more like a 2 star for the following reasons. Firstly the rooms and decor are extremely outdated and old. The room has a musty smell to it and the furnishings are old and in need of replacement. The lights above my bed didn't work and the shower leaked excessively. The shower head itself was falling apart and literally sprayed everywhere when turned on. The staff are well a bit rude to say the least. The woman working on the bar was unfriendly and quite hostile at times. I asked her for a pineapple juice and lemonade and she made a huge deal about it, as if I was asking for a complicated cocktail. Staff on reception are hardly ever there either. The buffet is extremely poor quality too. Don't expect miracles but a little variation would go along way here. The buffet was a continental breakfast with some quite questionable bacon, fruit which would be gone by 9 am and some pastries. The cheeses and meats aren't even worth mentioning they were that bad. Positive notes then - The massage spa was amazing. It costs €40 for an hour and the woman in there worked really hard to give us a relaxing time. This isn't exactly part of the hotel it's just located by the poolside, although it claims to be a part of the hotel. The coffee machine at breakfast was also ok. Made nice espressos and coffees. Apart from this there is nothing else good to say about this hotel. It shouldn't be listed as a 4 star as the service and accommodation is poor quality. If possible I'd suggest finding somewhere a bit closer to the town. It may cost a bit more but at least you'll get what you pay for.

Good selection of burgers and sides with two vegetarian and one fish option. Unfortunately the tuna burger tasted pretty weird and the veggy soup was very tasteless. Veggy burger was good though and fries were tasty! I think if you eat meat however you will be very happy here.

Best burger I've ever had. First i was a little amazed and surprised seeing my ordered burger Burgursinha floating in sauce, but after first bite I was impressed. Great mix of tastes. We've been there twice during a week. Definitely will come back next time while visiting Madeira.

Out of this world hamburgers, sandwiches, and sides, everything was phenomenal, went back multiple times. The staff was kind and attentive. Highly recommend 'The Special', if you want to try a classic with a local spin on it!

Loved it. Good selection of very interesting handmade burgers. Very tasty.

Very nice place, the burger is huge and delicious, reasonable prices. They have some kind of challenge : if you order the biggest burger (500g of meat) with hit sauce and eat alone in less than 30min you don't pay and get your photo to the hall of fame. I didn't try 😅. In my opinion, to be perfect just the meat must be cooked more evenly (mine was part medium well, part medium rare). I recommend and probably will come back!

Limited parking next to the restaurant, big portion size, enough to share. We had a “traditional” picato with chicken, was okay. Service could be better. After the food was served we had to call someone to the table for the bill. Shared outside table (basically on the parking lot) with some flies.

A hidden gem just 9 minutes drive from Funchal. Authentic place with very attentive staff. Garlic bread - you can eat it alone. We haven't got better bread anywhere else.

I visit Madeira eventually and have become a fan of the picados, this restaurant has become without a doubt one of my favorites for picados, excellent!

Found this place for lunch on a weekday. Was fairly busy. Gorgeous beach views. We had the fillet of scabbard with prawns and the mixed skewers with a side of sweet potatoes and mixed veggies. I loved the scabbard which was thick and flavorful along with the shrimps. The sweet potatoes isn’t like what you’d get in the US. It’s more like a yam which is boiled like the veggies. Would recommend!

The atmosphere is amazing, and it is better if you can see the sunset. You can go inside and choose the fish you like. The octopus salad and the grilled fish and prawns are great. Fish soup is very tasty, too.

Amazing seafood! Super simple but thanks to that You can feel the real flavour of different fish, homemade chips ( not frozen stuff) and freshly prepared veggies ( you might say boiled cabbage, potato or carrot is nothing extravagant but it definitely is satisfying and tasty!) limpets - very good, squid- not chewy at all, fresh and full of flavour! Service was nice and helpful. And the view- ads up the last bit to perfection:) strongly recommend

This beach is just brilliant. Super well run. Has everything you’d want, suitable for all ages. The rock pool is lovely and warm and is topped off with fresh sea water every high tide. It’s possible to hire sun loungers and umbrellas but there’s limited availability so get there early to get yours.

Had a great meal here, again. In short it’s a very well situated rooftop restaurant (you can sit inside if you wish), which has a fresh, catch of the day, fish-focussed menu. There are meat and vegetarian dishes too. It’s very reasonably priced and great to spend the evening. Book a place if you’re planning to watch the beautiful sunset over dinner. The waiters were informative and nice, and depending on you or your chosen language, are very chatty and good fun.

We dined there our first day in Madeira. We could see all the fish and choose the ones we liked. The food was very well cooked and tasty. The only negative is that the mains arrived very late, and in the meantime, we lost our appetite. In their defence, we ordered a big fish that needed a long time to cook. I am sure they did their best. Happy to recommend this restaurant. Try to go at sunset ;)

A must visit in Madeira if you love good seafood!! I visited with 2 friends and we all really enjoyed it. The service was great and super attentive. Our waitress really made sure we had everything we needed and were well served. The food was delicious. All the seafood was on point and very well prepared. See pictures for proof. I would go back if I visit Madeira again. Totally recommended.

What a delightful gem we stumbled upon! Our dining experience here was truly enjoyable. The restaurant boasts a magnificent sunset view, making it an ideal spot for reservations during this time. Inside, the restaurant is quite spacious, and the dishes are generously plated. It's worth noting that this is a typical seafood establishment, so guests shouldn't expect an overly luxurious design. However, the cozy ambiance more than makes up for it. One thing to keep in mind is that it can get a bit noisy, reminiscent of a bustling canteen. Some soundproofing solutions could improve the overall dining experience, allowing for more intimate conversations. Before our main course, we were treated to delectable garlic toasts with butter and some deep-fried fish cakes. We had the pleasure of savoring the fish soup, a unique and mouthwatering creation. I've searched far and wide for a soup with a similar watery texture, a touch of tomato paste, and abundant fish pieces, but this place nailed it. The flavor balance was spot on. Our server was exceptional, as was the entire dining experience. Unfortunately, we were too full to try the deer dish. Lastly, a heartfelt shoutout to the staff; they were incredibly friendly and charming. A big thank you for their exceptional service. This restaurant comes highly recommended!

Tasty food and nice atmosphere, the staff is very friendly and the prices are fair compared to the quality of the fish. I suggest to order less than you have in mind cus the portions are quite large and you also get free sides. I highly recommend this place if you’re nearby and craving seafood.

A popular, relaxing seafront spot, great for a drink. This Italian restaurant is a place to chill and take things slow. It does food and has a fair few options, it'll hit a cheap and cheerful spot but it won't blow your mind. It's not terrible, but it's not going to win any awards. It has a TV for football and staff are a little all over the place. Still if you want a beer by the sea this is perfect. It's good value for what you get.

The location is absolutely lovely. The food is just kind of sub average. The fish balls were full of Bones and very mushy. Pizza was kind of tough and didn't have a lot of flavor. But it was still okay tasting. Stafford very friendly and had a good grasp of English.

Fun location on the Lido Promenade for tasty pizza and salad. Since we'd already had drinks at lunch and an afternoon cocktail, we chose bottles of water with our meal. The waiter brought wee shots of Poncha and I have to say it was quite good. I've tried quite a few on the island and they vary from very good to less than desirable. I'd recommend theirs and would order it next time. The mixed salad had lots of variety and was large enough to share. After walking more than a dozen miles, we were starving and each ordered a small pizza, but realized we could've shared one or even a medium size. Great crust and tasty toppings. Fantastic water views and a perfect outside spot for people watching. I'd recommend this local favorite. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5 stars

Tried Camarao pizza with shrimps and seafood cocktail two times and it was great. But the third one was with dry dough, small shrimps, lack of sauce and overcooked. It’s better to keep high standards

Lasagna was not that good. Tasteless green pasta with bolognese sauce nothing special topped with loads of cheese. Nothing to do with authentic lasagna. Nice sea view!

I want to share my gratitude to this hotel and its staff, it was a perfect holiday. Breakfast with a lot of choice with a beautiful view, 2 swimming pools (1 of them on the roof with an excellent view of the city), a gym and a huge territory of the hotel itself. The staff were very friendly and we felt very welcome. I will definitely come back here when I'm in Madeira again. This hotel really brightened up our holiday, thank you for that! Highly recommend!

This hotel is architecturally stunning and has kept a lot of it’s history and charm without feeling really old fashioned. The main shared areas (lobby, pool, breakfast area) are great and rooms are fine but a little worn in places. The room’s air conditioning works well however there’s a lack of A/C anywhere else in the hotel, or at least it feels that way. If it is on it isn’t helped by all the doors being open all the time as the lobby and breakfast area are extremely warm all the time. Roof pool is nice as is the garden pool area. Well maintained and beautiful gardens. Drinks prices are good, too. Location is brilliant and you can walk anywhere.

Rooms and bathrooms were very tired and need a major refurb. Sound insulation between rooms was very poor, we could hear conversations from the room next door. Beds were very cheap and rattly. No daily top up of bottled drinking water. No tea/coffee or kettle in the rooms. No irons provided, have to go the the 1st floor London room to iron which was hilariously tragic. These are things I would never expect from a 5 star hotel. Should be changed to 3 star and priced as such. However the staff were lovely and location was great.

First the good stuff. The staff were without exception, helpful, friendly, patient, and very competent. The hotel is impressive if a little sterile with large marble lobby and excellent public areas which were kept spotlessly clean by the staff. The rooms (we stayed in a Garden View) are spacious and adequately furnished for the price paid although I'm not sure if there is any value in staying in a sea view as the balconies are small and the view can't be that great. The location is excellent, just a 10 minute walk (uphill on the way home) from the town centre which is lovely and lively with open air concerts several times a week. I also think that as it's closer to the town it seemed to attract a younger group of guests than many of the hotels further out of the city, which is something we liked. Breakfasts are very good but the evening meal (we were on half board) became a little repetitive after a couple of days and we wouldn't take the meal option again. On a less positive note; There was a big wedding on one evening and the normal guests were relegated to a smaller area upstairs. There wasn't much atmosphere in the bar in the evening and the entertainment provided on three nights really wasn't very good. Having said all the above, we would return to the hotel but only on B & B and would happily recommend it to others on that basis. Funchal itself is great and has plenty of restaurant options instead.

Had B & B as we love to eat out. The old town is a 15 min walk so an easy option. So many street restaurants and bars around every night is different. Breakfasts are good and from 7.00 to 11, so good for trip days or a lie in. We would come back here again

It's pretty much the same as Mcds in the UK, but don't expect a large coffee.

Great outlet with excellent fast service, delicious food and drinks and good ambience with seating inside and outside facing the sea.

My son loves this McDonald’s and it’s really nice and fast and food is good. ALSO, there is an eagle and you can take pictures with the eagle!!

Very well situated just in front of the ocean, on the opposite side of the road, next to Pizza Hut Some stuff were not available. Yet, it still nice if you don't have much time to eat.

Ok but confusing, ordered 2 waters and a coffee. Supposed to collect from MC café, but obviously stuff doesn’t share any info with each other , so the order was just ignored and around 10 people were served before us. Actually we left before getting anything 😞

My wife and I stayed here for the beginning leg of our honeymoon. Once we arrived at the hotel and checked in, it was an amazing experience to grab drink on the front Garden Restaurant that overlooks the ocean with a great view. The pool was clean and great to spend the later half of our days at when we were back from adventuring in the town and around the island. There are restaurants and cafes very close to the resort so the location was great. The staff were super friendly and some did not hesitate to strike up a conversation with us during our half board dinners and breakfasts. Khan was amazing at not only making us feel at home, but sharing his experience there as well from around the world. I would highly recommend staying here.

Definitely book this hotel, you will NOT be disappointed! I arrived very late so there was no one to take my luggage to my room but I was given a welcome drink and checked in efficiently as the clerk could see I was tired. The breakfast was delicious and full of variety. The VIEWS of the ocean are breathtaking. Love that my room had pretty much every amenity- balcony with seating, bidet, robe/slippers. There is also a separate elevator to reach the spa and sauna which makes the area quiet and peaceful. Tons of restaurants in walking distance if you don't want to eat onsite, but it was cool that they had a themed dinner during my stay. Upon checkout, they held my bags while I finished an day trip around the island and then called a cab for me with a preset fare which was nice. Don't miss a chance to stay here! Just note, it's pretty far from the airport so get ready to fork out some serious cash (up to $45!) to get to the hotel.

An awesome hotel! When I arrived I was treated with a welcome drink which was so nice and unexpected 😍 All the receptionists are very friendly and everyone speaks English. The rooms are also nice, I stayed in a Pool view room. Breakfast, pools, facilities, everything is really great! I’d like to come back later ☺️

Very good hotel. Located very close to the city center. Various restaurants and pubs close by. Right opposite is the Savoy Palace. Good outdoor pool and an indoor one as well. Breakfast was very good, but the service during breakfast was very slow and poor. The room we got was very nice. Apparently families don't get sea view rooms else that would have been very good. Parking is a hassle. The parking at the hotel level is 20 Euros per day but there's a free one where you drive down to a very narrow parking lot which I had some trouble with. The check-in process could definitely be improved. We got there with a tour bus which just landed before us and we had to wait for almost 30-40 mins before someone could help us. The laid back culture probably doesn't help but I think they can definitely look to make it a bit more efficient.

Good hotel on a good location. Around the clock reception and breakfast from 7 to 11 everyday. Hotel is old and unfortunately it shows in that some of the surface material are little worn down. Other that that we have had no issues during our stay and staff has been quick to react on our wishes or complaints, for example our misbehaving door lock was repaired within two hours of us reporting it. Breakfast is loaded with options. Pool area is very enjoyable and large enough to find your own space easily.

Very nice environment (next to the harbour), very delicious food (we had lapas and spaghetti with lobster and prawns), very generous amount of prawns and lobster ( we shared them as the starter and main meal). The service is superlative! Highly recommended.

We had drinks here on a couple of occasions. Overall great service and really cool views from the outdoor seating area. Beers could have been better, especially at this pricepoint. And local drinks like poncha are also generally nicer at the various bars in the town. However, for the views you get and the different atmosphere, this place is definitely worth going to. Just know that you'll have to pay a bit more and occasionally the quality won't be as good as what you might get in other bars.

Visited here twice while recently in Funchal on holiday. As I like craft beers, I tried their beer tasting option(flight) with 5 different beers and a separate 5 beers on the 2nd visit along with a scabbard fish sandwich in local bread. The beers were brewed on site. Staff were excellent, and the bar overlooked the marina with loads of outdoor seating. I recommend a visit.

I love this place - it has such a great location and yet the prices are extremely reasonable The beef skewer (espetada) is served the traditional way on wooden bay laurel sticks and the flavour is amazing. I’ve tried two of the rice stews - prawn and lobster was ok but a little bland and the lobster was overcooked, prawn and monkfish was much better with perfectly cooked fish and more flavour. These are perfect for 2 to share Had the wonderfully light passion fruit pudding as well on my last visit I also love that they serve half bottles of Mateus rose, great for two! But the best thing about it is the view looking back at Funchal bay, especially once the sun goes down

Great place to enjoy a nice beer (brewed on site) soak up the sunshine and watch the world slowly pass by.
