5 months ago G Mac10how did he rate it?

Do not visit. The whole ticket system is a scam. You can’t buy a ticket at the monastery. They said you need to go online to buy a ticket, but the internet was slow and I was unable to go, even though I was at the door.

4 months ago Justyna Janiszewskawrote only this for this place:

The place itself is magnificent BUT!!!! the ticket system and opening hours are a disaster. I also see from the pictures of visitors from some time ago that we were not let in to many places they could see, basically we could visit the church and the inner court of the monastery- nothing else. So, do go there, but plan ahead, get your cathedral museum tickets first, don't leave it for the afternoon, and then enjoy what you're allowed to enjoy!

3 years ago darius savolskis: it is necessary to add to this place:

Frankly speaking it impressed me more than the Cathedral of Santiago. It does not have many visitors, so, you can explore this enchanting place at your own pace and admire wonderful guided carvings.

4 months ago Ashley Medlinwhat can I say about this place?

Very beautiful! I would recommend looking at the hours before you go.

6 years ago Kt O'Nealevaluates this place as follows:

While it has an entrance admission, it was affordable & worth every cent. Highly recommended. The place is beautiful. As it's a museum really enjoyed being able to go places in the church we would not normally be allowed. Wish there was an audio tour in different languages or a pamphlet.

What our travelers says:

5 months ago Robwrote only this for this place:

Grand church definitely worth a visit, it is the centre piece of a large square. If you can get there early before it gets busy. 10-15 minutes walk from train station. This is the end of the line for the pilgrims who come from many different directions.

3 months ago Radek Dohnaldescribed this experience as follows:

Huge cathedral with a lot of statues and decoratives. Entrance is free, but you can go inside without the backpack only. There are many tourists everywhere...

1 month ago Anna S.described this experience as follows:

SCAM! They charge you for standing below the portico, scanning a QR code with your phone, to listen to an audio. I was not told to bring headphone! No actual guide. NO PICTURES ALLOWED. It feels so wrong to separate the portico from the actual cathedral. Pilgrims are supposed be welcomed by the portico to walk into this amazing cathedral. Instead, there’s impolite personnel staring at you.

7 months ago Dani Baalevaluates this place as follows:

The Catedral de Santiago de Compostela is a stunning architectural marvel and an iconic symbol of Spanish history and culture. Located in the heart of Galicia, it is the final destination for pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago. The cathedral’s mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles creates a unique and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The intricate facade, beautiful interior, and the famous Botafumeiro incense burner add to its charm. A must-visit for history lovers, pilgrims, and those seeking spiritual or architectural wonder.

4 months ago Pei Jun Quek- why does he think this place is on the list?

I got the 7.30pm slot which makes no sense because we were left with no time to look at the exhibits in the Gelmirez Palace before all getting chased out because the museum was closing at 8pm, that was a real shame. The last timeslot should have been 7pm so that people can see all the exhibits. Or at least the staff should tell us in advance there are further exhibits ahead. But half an hour is simply too short to do justice even if it's just the Portico of Glory which is magnificent.

8. place - USC ~ Museo de Historia Natural

USC ~ Museo de Historia Natural

What our travelers says:

3 years ago Hello Houseexplained best how he liked it:

:) :) :) :) :) Ok it is not Free :( but ... €2 for a family of upto 8 persons is a very nice price. When we went we had the entire Musuem to ourselves as we were the only visitors. It can be seen in about 1.5 hrs - we know as this was all the time we had before it would close for siesta at 1400 when we arrived. Your entry payment is only good for the time you are there and must repay if you arrive when it reopens after siesta if you were too. Amazing collection and displays. Well laid out and with simple explanations (Galician and Spanish only) with of course Latin names for all species, rocks etc on display. The kids loved it. Absolutely worth a look :)

womderful for families, beautifully organized and the staff were friendly and helpful

4 months ago Mike Hoffmandescribed this experience as follows:

A very nicely put together natural History museum. Large collection of minerals and mollusks. Lots of descriptions in English. Off the regular path, out of the tourist area.

3 years ago Greg N: it is necessary to add to this place:

Interesting exhibition, modern, popular with school kids. Only drawback not all artefacts labelled with English descriptions but Google translate did the job. Helpful staff

2 years ago John McCooeexplained best how he liked it:

Nice but small museum with plenty of variety. There was alot of rocks though, maybe a little too much.

Interesting museum! I enjoyed it! And, it’s free 😁!

5 months ago Megan Stricklandwrote only this about this place:

Museum was small but interesting with a lot of multi sensory art.

3 years ago Anthony Joneswhat can I say about this place?

I thought the building's outside was a bit boring, but the lines inside are better. Terrace and shop closed when we visited. It's all Installations - we liked them but some paintings and photos would have been good. It's free, it's worth a look, and there's a great 'living" installation of a man at a desk in the middle of a display as indictment of office culture in the post-Covid multiverse.

2 months ago Susana Serrano Ruizexplained best how he liked it:

Wonderful museum, I visited it twice and I would have needed more visits to really absorve the current exhibitios( very rich). I said to the lady at reception that it is worth visiting Santiago only to visit this museum.

6 months ago Bruce Wilsonsaid the following about this gem:

The museum is a nice gallery space. When I visited the majority of exhibits used avant-garde media and referenced political issues I only understood superficially. In one room I was not sure if the digital projector was broken or if the distortion was part of the piece.

Beautiful park next to the city center.

11 months ago Luciano Carvalho: it is necessary to add to this place:

I had the chance to see As Duas Marias in Santiago de Compostela, and it’s such a vibrant and striking sculpture. Located in Parque das Alamedas, it portrays two colorful women, Maruxa and Coralia, who were iconic figures in the city. Their bright clothing and cheerful poses add a whimsical touch to the park, drawing the attention of passersby. Learning about their history as symbols of resilience and individuality made the experience even more meaningful. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting Santiago.

7 months ago Dilys Duckexplained best how he liked it:

Very interesting example of a tribute to two women who dared to be different in difficult times! An example for all of us!

2 years ago Rebecca L.explained best how he liked it:

Famous statue in Santisgo de Compostela in memory of two sisters who tried to bring joy into their lives through wearing bright colored clothes. Their stories are hard, but it is fun that they are remembered.

4. place - Parque de San Domingos de Bonaval

Parque de San Domingos de Bonaval

What our travelers says:

3 months ago Mario Caballerowrote only this for this place:

Interesting place, lots of history, also very calm, green and different. Ancient grave yard.

3 years ago Hello Housewrote only this for this place:

Could be a lot better public park. Very little signage and nothing about its history could be found in the park itself. Very steep and slippery in the rain. Not much for kids that we found. No public toilets or drinking fountains seen. Lovely spaces ruined by graffiti in a lot of cases. A few retaining walls look ready to tip over as they are bulging and do t seem to be draining correctly anymore. Google Maps does need to better here to mark how green this space really is. Good viewing in places.

2 years ago Raul Chow did he rate it?

Beautiful views of Santiago from here. Beautiful display of wild flowers growing on a rock wall. Water fountain from 1747, not ancient but 29 years before the US Declaration of Independence was signed.

1 year ago Lyn Wilsonevaluates this place as follows:

Beautiful and peaceful walks in the middle of a busy city. Returned to watch the sun setting over the cathedral in Santiago

7 years ago A. M.said the following about this gem:

Huge park on a hill with great views of the city center and an 18th century cemetery. About a couple of miles uphill hike from the Cathedral to get there but it's worth every step.

Cidade da Cultura de Galicia
We give 8.2/10!. This place was visited and rated 10857-times

What our travelers says:

2 months ago Anouk Kraakman: it is necessary to add to this place:

I enjoyed my visit very much! I liked the exhibitions in the museum (which are for free), but the building in itself is absolutely impressive, inside and out! Even if you don't like art, worth it to just walk around in the building. And walk around all the buildings on the outside as well, it was cool to see all the different angles.

1 month ago Jen Brennan- why does he think this place is on the list?

Stunning architecture inside and out and beautiful views, even on a misty morning. Saw the Boris Savelev exhibit (free, as was library/archives) and was blown away! The grounds are fun and filled with sculptures and play spaces. If you can handle the hills, I recommend walking from the heart of Santiago de Compestela via the Forest of Galicia.

6 months ago Giselle JBhow did he rate it?

An interesting place with beautiful architecture. Some nice free exhibits but booking also recommended for the paid ones as some of these are guided. Also recommend to see the program online before visiting. Not busy at all.

3 months ago Yuri Perezwrote only this for this place:

We visited the city of culture at the end of the Camino on our last day in Santiago. We found it very interesting.Visited three exhibitions one of them related to virtual reality called Origins. Our daughter greatly enjoyed it. The two others were around local artists. It’s a beautiful l architected place that will keep you entertained for half a day no more.

2 months ago Nigel Dutsonhow did he rate it?

We wandered around the boulevard for several hours. The site was mostly deserted. Interesting sculptures but we never found our way into any building. The museum was supposed to be open but it seemed to be closed. All very bizarre

Looking for a spot where nature and history intertwine? Parque da Alameda in Santiago de Compostela is a lush escape that feels like a secret garden in the heart of the city. Stroll through its tree-lined paths, past quirky statues and vibrant flowerbeds, and you’ll feel the pulse of Galicia’s charm. Did you know the park’s iconic oak grove is home to trees over 200 years old, standing as silent witnesses to centuries of pilgrims passing by? Perfect for a peaceful walk or a moment to soak in the magic!

4 months ago Hysterical Historywhat can I say about this place?

A great place to sit under oak trees in the cool on hot days with splendid views of the cathedral. Take a coffee and have a chat with someone. Take a look around the rest of the park to, there's a lovely little abandoned chapel of St Susan going to waste here!😕
